Title: The Empress
Inspiration for The Empress • by Graphic Artist Barbara Damoli
The Empress, like some of the art graphics are inspired by the legend of the Knights Templars and the Tarot Cards. The Tarots are mostly associated with fortune telling, but there is an ancient and much more fascinating site to them. One of the legends or theories, is that they were created by The Knights Templars.
The Knights Templars were a Christian military order, as well as a secret society whose true purpose remains uncertain debated to this day.
One of the miths/legends around the order, tells that, when the Knights arrived to The Holy Land, they discovered secret parts of Christianity’s history/origines, which they could not reveal, in their time. Therefore they created the Tarot Cards, in which they communicated their secret knowledge, in the symbols, which we can still see on the cards today.
This graphic was inspired by a Tarot card: The Empress, the third trump or Major Arcana card, in traditional Tarot decks (games as well as divination).
The Empress is the archetypal earth mother, the feminine principle, she represents fertility and/or abundance, in different areas of life. This allegorical figure has a very positiv meaning, therefore it inspired a joyful and bright art graphic, meant to spread a message of hope.
The Empress Quote:
“Once upon a time there was an empress, trapped as a ghost in the ruins of a jewelled palace, cursed to find another soul to take her place. At least, that’s what the empress heard. But, as it turned out, stories can have any ending you like”. Kirsty Logan
The Empress Quote:
“I, the ordinary restless child, the plain adolescent, the commoner who had been a nun twice, would prove to be a Daughter of Heaven”. Shan Sa
